Simacota is a town and municipality located in the Santander Department of northeastern Colombia.
The municipality gained historical notoriety in 1965 when it was briefly invaded by more than 100 members of the anti-government guerrilla organization Ejército de Liberación Nacional (ELN). This event served as the group's first act as a new organization and captured significant public attention. During the invasion, the militants murdered three of the town's four policemen, robbed the local bank, harassed residents, and looted medicines from the local pharmacy before being driven out by the Colombian Army.
