Calarcá is a municipality located in the eastern part of the department of Quindío, Colombia. Situated just 4 km east of the departmental capital, Armenia, it serves as the second most populated city in the region.
The city was founded in 1886 by Segundo Henao and Román María Valencia during a period of colonization by people from Antioquia. It is known by the nickname La Villa del Cacique, a title given in homage to its writers.
