Cúcuta, officially known as San José de Cúcuta, is a municipality in Colombia. It serves as the capital of the department of Norte de Santander and functions as the nucleus of the Metropolitan Area of Cúcuta.
The city is situated in the homonymous valley located beneath the Eastern Ranges of the Colombian Andes. It is positioned on the border with Venezuela.
