Policarpa Salavarrieta Ríos, commonly known as La Pola, was a Neogranadine seamstress who served as a spy for the Revolutionary Forces during the Spanish Reconquista of the Viceroyalty of New Granada. She is recognized as a heroine of Colombian independence due to her role in the revolutionary movement against Spanish rule.
Following her activities as a spy, Salavarrieta was captured by Spanish Royalists and executed for high treason. Her death is commemorated annually in Colombia as the Day of the Colombian Woman.
