Acacias are a genus of approximately 1,084 species of shrubs and trees belonging to the subfamily Mimosoideae within the pea family Fabaceae. They are commonly known by the names wattles or acacias.
While the genus initially included plant species native to Africa, South America, and Australasia, it is currently reserved primarily for species originating from Australia. Other species within the genus are found in regions including New Guinea, Southeast Asia, and the Indian Ocean.
