Maicao is a city and municipality situated in the La Guajira Department of northern Colombia. It is located approximately 76 km from Riohacha, which serves as the capital of the department.
The city is notable for its proximity to the border with Venezuela. It stands as the second largest urban center near this international boundary, following the city of Cúcuta.
