Monteria is a municipality and city located in northern Colombia. It serves as the capital of the Department of Córdoba and is situated along the Sinú River, approximately 50 km (31 mi) from the Caribbean Sea.
The city features an inland seaport that connects to the Caribbean Sea via the Sinú River. The region is characterized by a diverse cultural heritage resulting from a blend of colonial Spanish descendants, Indigenous Zenú peoples, Crypto-Jews, and more recent Middle East immigrants.
Monteria is notable for being the home of Porro folklore music and the Sombrero Vueltiao, which is recognized as a national symbol. The city remains a significant cultural and geographical hub within the department.
