Lloró is a municipality and town located in the Chocó Department of Colombia. The settlement derives its name from Gioró, a pre-Columbian indigenous chief, rather than from the Spanish verb "llorar," which means to cry.
The town is notable for its extreme weather conditions, claiming the second world record for the highest average annual precipitation at 12,717 mm (501 in). This data was recorded at an Agricultural Farm managed by the University of Bogotá between 1952 and 1989. While Mawsynram, India, holds the official world record, Lloró's figures would make it the wettest place on Earth if they were verified as accurate.
