Acandí is a town located at the northern extremity of the department of Chocó in northwest Colombia. It sits along the border with Panama and faces the Caribbean Sea, situated approximately 366 km (227 mi) from Quibdó, the capital of the Chocó department.
The town was founded around 1887 and officially became a municipality in 1905 after previously being part of Turbo. Its name is derived from a corruption of the indigenous word "Acanti," which translates to "River of Stone." The region maintains an average temperature of 28 degrees Celsius (82 °F).
