Valledupar is a city and municipality located in northeastern Colombia. It serves as the capital of the Cesar Department. The name Valledupar originates from "Valle de Upar," which was established to honor Cacique Upar, the Amerindian leader who ruled the valley.
The city is situated geographically between the mountains of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and the Serranía del Perijá. It lies along the borders of the Guatapurí and Cesar rivers.
