Baranoa is a municipality and city located in the Colombian department of Atlántico. It is situated almost exactly in the center of the department, a geographical position that has led to its nickname, "El corazón alegre del Atlántico."
The city is notably recognized as the birthplace of Juan José Nieto Gil, who was the first documented black president of Colombia.
