Saravena is a city and municipality located in the Arauca Department of Colombia. It is situated approximately 6 kilometres (3.7 miles) south of the international border with Venezuela.
The municipality has a population of 55,554 residents. The region is characterized by a significant military presence near the Venezuelan border and has experienced activity involving the FARC and ELN armed groups.
