Valparaíso is a major city, seaport, and naval base facility located in the Valparaíso Region of Chile. It serves as an important maritime hub and is currently the 10th-largest commune in the country, with a population of 284,938.

The city was originally named after Valparaíso de Arriba, a location in Castile-La Mancha, Spain. It remains a significant geographical and administrative center within its region.
