The Andes, also known as the Andes Mountains or Andean Mountain Range, constitute the longest continental mountain range in the world. They form a continuous highland along the western edge of South America, stretching approximately 8,900 kilometres (5,500 mi) in length and varying between 200 to 700 kilometres in width.
The range maintains an average height of about 4,000 metres (13,000 ft). It extends from south to north across seven different South American countries: Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, and Venezuela.
