Wanzhou

Wanzhou District is an urban area located in the Chongqing region of China, situated on the upper reaches of the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River. It serves as the second most populated urban core area within the municipality and shares borders with Sichuan province to the northwest and Hubei province to the southeast.

Historically known as Wanxian or Wan County, Wanzhou was part of Sichuan province before Chongqing was established as a direct-controlled municipality. The district's urban core is located approximately 228 km (142 mi) away from the city proper of Chongqing.
