Bashan is an ancient geographical region historically identified by its biblical name. During the Iron Age, it was recognized as the northernmost territory of Transjordan. The region is situated in the modern-day territories of Jordan and Syria.
The western portion of Bashan corresponds to the area currently known as the Golan Heights. This specific section was occupied by Israel during the 1967 Six Day War and remains under Israeli occupation today.
