Yunjin, also known as Nanjing brocade or cloud brocade, is a traditional Chinese luxury silk fabric produced in Nanjing. The craft dates back to the end of the Song dynasty and utilizes weft-weaving techniques derived from both the Song and Tang dynasties.
The production process involves shuttle-weaving, which frequently incorporates gold and silver threads alongside colored silks. During the Ming dynasty, weavers developed a swivel weaving technique that allowed for the creation of colorful designs on base fabrics such as satin. In 2009, Nanjing brocade was officially included in the UNESCO representative list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
