Wenlin is a city located in China.
While the name Wenlin is associated with various geographical locations, it is also the namesake of the Wenlin Institute. The institute's president, Tom Bishop, developed the Wenlin Software for Learning Chinese to address the specific needs of Mandarin language learners. This software includes a dictionary function, a corpus of Chinese texts, and tools for creating and reading text files in multiple formats such as Unicode, GB 2312, Big5, and HZ.
The software functions as an interactive tool where users can point their cursor at a Chinese character to retrieve its English translation or vice versa. It also features a flashcard function designed to assist students in mastering the language.
