Neijiang is a prefecture-level city located in the southeastern region of Sichuan province, China. Situated along the Tuo River, the city occupies a strategic position midway between the major metropolitan hubs of Chengdu and Chongqing.
The city serves as an important transportation and food-processing center for the region. According to the 2020 census, the total population of the prefecture was 3,140,678, while the built-up metro area consisting of the Shizhong and Dongxing urban districts had a population of 1,179,140.
