Muxi, also known as Muqi or Fachang, was a Chinese Chan Buddhist monk and painter who lived during the 13th century. He practiced around the end of the Southern Song dynasty, which lasted from 1127 to 1279.
He is recognized as one of the most significant figures in the history of Chan painting. His notable works include the Six Persimmons and the Daitokuji triptych, both of which are considered essential examples of the genre. Muxi's artistic style had a profound influence on subsequent generations of artists, particularly impacting monk painters in Japan.
