Leshan is a prefecture-level city located in the Sichuan province of China. Situated at the confluence of the Dadu, Min, and Qingyi rivers, it serves as a significant regional center and transportation hub in southern Sichuan. The city was formerly known by the names Jiading and Jiazhou.
As of the end of 2024, Leshan has a registered population of approximately 3.45 million people. Located about 120 km (75 mi) from the provincial capital of Chengdu, the city is recognized as a historical and cultural destination known for its rich food culture.
The city is notably famous for housing two major world heritage sites: Mount Emei and the Leshan Giant Buddha. These landmarks contribute to its status as a prominent site for tourism and cultural history in the region.
