Guangyuan is a prefecture-level city located in the Sichuan Province of China. It sits on the northern edge of the Sichuan Basin along the upper reaches of the Jialing River. The city serves as a geographic junction where the provinces of Sichuan, Shaanxi, and Gansu meet, bordering Shaanxi to the northeast and Gansu to the northwest.
As of the 2020 census, Guangyuan had a population of 2,305,657. By the end of 2024, the registered population was projected to reach 2,893,700. The demographic breakdown of this population includes approximately 814,800 urban residents and 2,078,800 rural residents, with the rural population accounting for 71.8% of the total.
