Sanya is a resort city located on Hainan Island in South China. It serves as one of the four prefecture-level cities within Hainan Province and is situated at the southernmost point of the island.
The city is a major tourist destination characterized by several large-scale resorts, including those on Phoenix Island, an artificial landmass in Sanya Bay featuring seven-star and five-star accommodations. Notable landmarks include the Guanyin of Nanshan, which stands as the thirteenth tallest Buddhist statue in the world.
The region is also home to significant natural features, specifically the Sanya coral reef. This area serves as a national protected nature reserve spanning approximately 4,000 hectares.
