Shaoguan is a prefecture-level city located in northern Guangdong Province (Yuebei) in South China. It serves as a regional hub bordering Hunan Province to the northwest and Jiangxi Province to the northeast.
The city's built-up area, which consists of the Zhenjiang, Wujiang, and Qujiang urban districts, had a population of 1,028,460 according to the 2020 census. Shaoguan is notably home to the mummified remains of Huineng, who was the sixth Zen Buddhist patriarch.
