Renju

China

Renju is a professional variant of the abstract strategy board game gomoku. It is played using black and white stones on a 15x15 gridded go board.

The game was named "renju" by Japanese journalist Ruikou Kuroiwa on December 6, 1899, in the Japanese newspaper Yorozu chouhou. The name translates to "connected pearls" in Japanese.
