Nanling, also known as the Wuling, is a major mountain range located in Southern China. It serves as a significant geographical boundary, separating the Pearl River Basin from the Yangtze Valley and acting as the dividing line between south and central subtropical zones.
The main range of the Nanling Mountains stretches approximately 600 kilometers (370 mi) from west to east, spanning from Guilin and Hezhou in eastern Guangxi to Ganzhou in southern Jiangxi. From north to south, the range extends about 200 kilometers (120 mi) between Yongzhou and Chenzhou in southern Hunan and Qingyuan and Shaoguan in northern Guangdong. When including its various branches, the mountain system covers a total distance of 1,400 kilometers (870 mi) from west to east.
