The region near Kuitan includes Khüiten Peak, also known as Friendship Peak, which is situated in the Altai Range. This mountain peak serves as the international border between China and Mongolia at its summit point.
Standing at 4,356 metres (14,291 ft), Khüiten Peak is the highest point in the Altais and the highest elevation in both Mongolia and Altay Prefecture in Western China. The peak remains covered in snow throughout the year.
