Heyuan, also known as Ho Yun, is a prefecture-level city located in Guangdong Province, China. The name of the city literally translates to "origin of the river." As of the 2020 census, it had a population of 2,837,686, with over one million residents living in the urbanized areas of Yuancheng District and Dongyuan County. A significant portion of its population is of Hakka descent.
The region is characterized by numerous rainforests and contains the Xinfengjiang Reservoir, which is the largest lake in Guangdong. Additionally, Heyuan has been officially designated as the "Hometown of the Dinosaur in China" because thousands of dinosaur egg fossils have been discovered in its surrounding vicinity.
