Wenshan is a city located in the southeast region of Yunnan province in the People's Republic of China. It serves as the seat of the Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture. Historically known by the name Kaihua, the area was originally organized as a county before its administrative status was elevated.
On December 2, 2010, the city was officially upgraded to a county-level city following approval from the PRC State Council. It remains a primary administrative center for the surrounding autonomous prefecture.
