Shangri-La is a fictional location situated in the Kunlun Mountains of Tibet. It was first introduced to literature by British author James Hilton in his 1933 novel, Lost Horizon.
In the narrative, Shangri-La is depicted as a mystical and harmonious valley located at the western end of the mountains. The community is described as being guided from a lamasery and is characterized by its inhabitants who possess near-immortality, living for hundreds of years while aging only very slowly in appearance.
