Guangyuan is a prefecture-level city located in the Sichuan Province of China. It is situated on the northern edge of the Sichuan Basin along the upper reaches of the Jialing River. The city serves as a geographical junction where the provinces of Sichuan, Shaanxi, and Gansu meet, bordering Shaanxi to the northeast and Gansu to the northwest.
As of the 2020 census, Guangyuan had a population of 2,305,657. By the end of 2024, the registered population is projected to reach 2,893,700. The demographic breakdown includes an urban population of 814,800 and a rural population of 2,078,800, with the rural population accounting for 71.8% of the total.
