A guandao is a type of Chinese polearm utilized in various forms of Chinese martial arts. In Chinese, the weapon is properly referred to as a yanyuedao, a name documented in historical texts such as the Wujing Zongyao and Huangchao Liqi Tushi.
The weapon consists of a heavy blade featuring a spike at the back, which may also include a notch at the upper base designed to catch an opponent's weapon. The blade often possesses irregular serrations leading toward the spike. It is mounted on a pole measuring between 1.5 and 1.8 meters in length, constructed from wood or metal. A pointed metal counterweight is positioned at the opposite end of the pole to balance the heavy blade and facilitate striking.
