Duqu is not a city or geographical location; rather, it is a collection of computer malware first discovered on September 1, 2011. The threat was identified and analyzed by the Laboratory of Cryptography and System Security at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics in Hungary.
The malware is believed to be related to the Stuxnet worm and is thought to have been created by Unit 8200. It earned its name from the "~DQ" prefix that it applies to the names of the files it creates. A comprehensive 60-page report was published detailing the analysis of the threat.
