Yanmenguan

China

Yanmen Pass, also known as Yanmenguan or Xixingguan, is a mountain pass located in the Shanxi Province of China. It is situated just outside Yanmenguan Village in Yanmenguan Township, within Dai County of Xinzhou City. The site features three fortified gatehouses integrated into the Great Wall of China.

Historically, the pass served as a strategic choke point that controlled access between the Eurasian Steppe and the valleys of central Shanxi. Due to its geographical importance, it was the site of numerous significant battles spanning from ancient and medieval times through World War II. Today, the area surrounding the gatehouses and this section of the Great Wall is recognized as an AAAAA-rated tourist attraction.
