Jinzhong is a prefecture-level city located in east central Shanxi province in the People's Republic of China. It borders Hebei province to its east and was formerly known as Yuci. The city serves as a significant administrative region within the province, characterized by its proximity to major urban centers.
According to the 2020 census, Jinzhong had a total population of 3,379,498 inhabitants. Of this population, 1,226,617 reside in the Yuci and Taigu urban districts. The city is notably integrated with the neighboring city of Taiyuan; the combined built-up area of Taiuan - Jinzhong, which includes the Yuci district and six Taiyuan urban districts, houses a larger population of 5,433,659 people due to their largely conurbated nature.
