Gutao is a town located within Pingyao County in the Jinzhong prefecture of central Shanxi Province, China. It serves as an administrative component of the larger Pingyao Ancient City area.
The region is primarily recognized for its historical significance in Chinese economic history and its well-preserved urban planning from the Ming and Qing dynasties. Notably, it is the only walled city seat in China that retains a substantially complete layout from those periods.
