Hongkou is a district located in the northern urban core of Shanghai, China. It covers a total land area of 23.48 square kilometers (9.07 square miles) and had a recorded population of 757,498 as of 2020.
The district is bordered by several other major areas: Yangpu to the east, Pudong to the southeast, Huangpu to the southwest, Jing'an to the west, and Baoshan to the north.
