Zhongwei is a prefecture-level city located in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China. The city covers a total area of 16,986.1 square kilometers and had a population of approximately 1,174,600 as of 2019. By the end of 2024, the resident population was projected to be 1,079,800, with 570,300 of those residents living in urban areas.
The region is primarily recognized for its agricultural production, specifically the cultivation of wolfberries and Gobi watermelons. Additionally, Zhongwei is a significant site for renewable energy; it hosts the Tengger Desert Solar Park, which is one of the largest photovoltaic power stations in the world.
