Ulanhot is a county-level city located in the eastern part of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in China. It serves as the administrative center for the Hinggan League.
The city was formerly known as Wangin Süm. Historically, it held significant political importance as the first capital of Inner Mongolia, which was China's first autonomous region. Ulanhot served in this capacity starting on May 1, 1947, until the regional capital was relocated to Zhangjiakou in late December 1949.
Following these shifts, the regional capital moved again in June 1952 to Hohhot, which remains the current capital of the region. Ulanhot continues to function as a key administrative hub within its specific league.
