Hulunbuir, also known as Hulun Buir, is a prefecture-level city located in northeastern Inner Mongolia, China. Its administrative center is situated in the Hailar District, which serves as the region's largest urban area.
The city is characterized by significant natural landmarks, including the high steppes of the Hulun Buir grasslands, the Khingan range, and the Hulun and Buir lakes. Geographically, it shares borders with Russia to the north and west, Mongolia to the south and west, Heilongjiang province to the east, and Hinggan League to the direct south.
Hulunbuir is a linguistically diverse region where several languages are spoken alongside Mandarin Chinese. These include Mongolian dialects such as Khorchin and Buryat, the Mongolic language Daur, and various Tungusic languages, including Oroqen and Solon.
