Tongren is a prefecture-level city located in the eastern region of Guizhou province in the People's Republic of China. The area is primarily characterized by its agricultural landscape, specifically serving as a significant zone for tobacco planting and other crop production.
The administrative status of the region was officially changed from Tongren Prefecture to a prefecture-level city in November 2011. As of late 2024 and early 2025, the city maintains a permanent population of approximately 3.16 million people, with a registered population reaching 4.49 million.
