Quanzhou is a prefecture-level port city located on the north bank of the Jin River along the Taiwan Strait in southern Fujian, People's Republic of China. It serves as the most populous metropolitan region in the province of Fujian.
As of the 2020 census, the city has a total population of 8,782,285 across an area of 11,245 square kilometers. Its built-up area includes the urban districts of Licheng, Fengze, and Luojiang, as well as the cities of Jinjiang, Nan'an, and Shishi, along with Hui'an County and the Quanzhou District for Taiwanese Investment.
In 2010, Quanzhou was ranked as China's 12th-largest extended metropolitan area. The city is characterized by its significant coastal location and its role as a major population center in southern China.
