Zhangye is a prefecture-level city located in the central region of Gansu Province in the People's Republic of China. The city borders Inner Mongolia to the north and Qinghai to the south.
The central district of Zhangye is Ganzhou, which was formerly a city of the Western Xia. Historically, it served as one of the most significant outposts in western China.
