Tianshui is a prefecture-level city located in the southeast region of Gansu province, China. It serves as the second-largest city in the province and is situated along the upper reaches of the Wei River at the boundary between the Qinling Mountains and the Loess Plateau.
As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 2,984,659 inhabitants. The urban area consists of two districts, Qinzhou and Maiji, which house approximately 1,212,791 residents. The city and its surrounding areas are notable for their significant role in early Chinese history, evidenced by historic sites such as the Maijishan Grottoes.
