Dunhuang is a county-level city located in northwestern Gansu Province in Northwestern China. Historically known as Sachu, the city served as a significant stop along the ancient Silk Road.
The city is most notable for its proximity to the Mogao Caves. According to recent estimates, Dunhuang has a population of approximately 191,800 people.
