Baiyin is a prefecture-level city located in northeastern Gansu province, People's Republic of China. It is situated approximately 60 km (37 mi) from the provincial capital of Lanzhou and serves as an integral part of the Lanzhou-Baiyin Economic Belt.
Established during the 1950s, the city was originally developed as a primary base for mining non-ferrous metals. While its mines have faced exhaustion in recent decades, the region is currently undergoing an economic transition to reinvent its industrial focus beyond its historical mining roots.
