Nagqu is a prefecture-level city located in the northern region of the Autonomous Prefecture of Tibet, China. It was officially designated as the sixth prefecture-level city in Tibet on May 7, 2018, joining Lhasa, Shigatse, Chamdo, Nyingchi, and Shannan.
The regional area covers approximately 450,537 km² (173,953 sq mi), making it the largest prefecture-level city by area in the world. It is slightly larger than the country of Sweden. The city is bordered by Xinjiang to the north, Qinghai and Chamdo to the east, Ngari Prefecture to the west, and several other Tibetan prefectures to the south.
Demographic data indicates a resident population of 514,300 as of the end of 2024. This follows a 2010 census which recorded a population of 462,381 for the region.
