Turpan, also known as Turfan, is a prefecture-level city located in the eastern part of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in China. The city covers a total area of 69,759 square kilometers (approximately 26,934 square miles) and had a recorded population of 693,988 as of 2020.
The historical center of the prefectural area has undergone several shifts over time. These locations have moved from Yar-Khoto to Qocho, eventually settling in its current location at Turpan.
