Tacheng, also known as Qoqek or historically Chuguchak, is a county-level city in China. It serves as the administrative seat of Tacheng Prefecture within the northern Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture of Xinjiang. The name "Tacheng" is an abbreviation of Tarbagatay City, which refers to the nearby Tarbagatay Mountains.
The city is situated in the Dzungarian Basin, located approximately 10 kilometers from the Chinese border with Kazakhstan. Due to its status as an agricultural hub, Tacheng has long served as a major center for trade with Central Asia. Its primary industries include food processing, textiles, and utilities.
