Shache, also known as Yarkant County or Yakan County, is a county located in the Xinjiang region of China. It is situated on the southern rim of the Taklamakan Desert within the Tarim Basin and is one of 11 counties administered under the Kashgar Prefecture.
The county sits at an altitude of 1,189 metres (3,901 ft). Historically, it served as the seat of the Yarkand Khanate and an ancient Buddhist kingdom located on the southern branch of the Silk Road. As of 2003, the population of the county was recorded at 373,492.
